Editorial policy

Editorial standards

Every LitBuyUS review is written by a named member of our testing team who unpacked and tested the product; the review identifies purchased, supplied and loaned samples. We do not publish a review based on a spec sheet alone, and we do not run manufacturer copy as our own text.

Assignments and approvals

Dana Whitfield assigns each review and sets the test plan before anything is ordered. Colin Avery or another tester then runs the bench work. Manufacturers may review a draft for factual errors such as model numbers, included parts, and rated specs. They do not see scores before publication and they do not approve or edit conclusions.

Scores

We use a five-point scale: 5 excellent, 4 good, 3 adequate, 2 poor, 1 very poor. Scores are written as X / 5. A score reflects the tested sample, the price we paid at the time of testing, and the conditions described in the review.

Sourcing

We buy at retail whenever possible. When a product is supplied as a review sample, a loaner, or a returned unit, the review says so in plain language near the top.

Data and sources

Measured numbers come from our own bench instruments: a spectrometer, a lux meter, a power meter, a thermal probe, and a high-frame-rate camera for flicker. Standards references and manufacturer claims are checked against the documents we list in each guide. When we cannot verify a claim, we say what we could and could not confirm.

Updates and corrections

Reviews are updated when a product changes or when a retest produces different results. Update notes are dated and placed at the top of the page. Factual errors are handled under our corrections policy.

Automation

We use drafting software for scheduling, transcription, and table formatting. Measurements, hands-on observations, scores, and final text are written and verified by the editors named on the page.
